“We hope to help Polish and American citizens to realize the greatness
of Polish culture and its contribution to the world culture”

John Thornton – the president of the Paderewski Association

On October 12th, 2005 the newly founded Paderewski Association and the Polish Museum of America organized a tribut in commemoration of the 145th anniversary of Ignacy Jan Paderewski’s birthday. This event became an opportunity to introduce the new Association and its mission. The aim of the Association is to preserve and cultivate inherited Polish cultural values.
For many Polish-Americans, Ignacy Paderewski is a reminder of their Polish ancestry and tradition. In 1891 in Carnegie Hall, Paderewski gave his first piano concert in America. Today the memory of the great musician is still alive in the United States. In Paso Robles in California there are Paderewski music festivals, and Paderewski memorabilia are on display in many museums.
It is of greatest importance to cultivate the memory of this great man as well as his endowment of patriotism, dedication and hard work. It is very important, especially for those who were born in the U.S. and whose pride at being Polish was degraded by widely circulated “Polish jokes,” to understand the true meaning of Polish culture and history. The names of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Kazimierz Pulawski and the names of other great Poles from the past and the present should help Polish people realize how proud they should be of their historical and cultural heritage.
